Guwahati, Feb 7 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that Assam holds significant potential to emerge as a tourism hub, given that the northeastern states share borders with four nations: Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.

Sarma pointed out that this geographical advantage presents a remarkable opportunity to enhance industry and commerce in the region, positioning Assam as a favorable destination for investments. He stated, “The state government is gearing up to host a major investment summit – Advantage Assam – to attract investments here. This summit will pave the way for advancements in industry and infrastructure across Assam.”

The Chief Minister highlighted that Assam has experienced tremendous developmental changes since the BJP assumed power at the national level. He noted, “Those who have not visited Assam before 2014 may not fully grasp the vast progress the state has achieved in the past decade. Our commitment to peace has been mirrored by significant infrastructure improvements in all sectors.”

“A stark comparison exists between Assam in the 1980s and its present form. Militancy is nearly eradicated, crime rates have plummeted, women feel secure in public spaces, and businesses and festivals operate around the clock,” the CM remarked.

Importantly, to stimulate business growth in the state, a prominent investor summit – Advantage Assam – is scheduled to take place in Guwahati this February.

Sarma previously mentioned that this summit aims to attract greater investments into the state. He assured that more government employment opportunities and entrepreneurship support would be extended to the local populace. The event, set for February 25 and 26, is expected to showcase the traditional Jhumur dance of the tea tribe communities. “This summit serves as a platform to present Assam's rich cultural heritage to a global audience while drawing in investors,” he stated.

A grand Jhumur dance performance featuring over 7,500 dancers and artists will be a highlight of the event. The Chief Minister described it as an extraordinary spectacle, with meticulous preparations including master training workshops, constituency-level sessions, district-level performances, and final rehearsals in Guwahati.

CM Sarma expressed that the objective of ‘Advantage Assam’, the second iteration of this international investor summit since its inception in 2018, is to enhance infrastructure development and attract investments within the state.
